(Sep. 24 11:03 AM) - The New York Times reports that Tom Stoppard is among the winners of the Japan Arts Association's Praemium Imperiale arts awards. The global award is presented annually for lifetime achievement in categories not covered by the Nobel Prize. According to the Association's website, since the honor's inception in 1989 it has become one of the highest international distinctions for artists. The ceremony will take place in in Tokyo on October 22nd.

(Jul. 1 6:22 PM) - Actor Harve Presnell, star of stage and screen productions of "The Unsinkable Molly Brown" has passed away from cancer at age 75. Presnell died June 30th of pancreatic cancer at St. John's Health Center in Santa Monica, California, according to Gregg Klein, Presnell's agent.
(May. 18 2:29 PM) - On Tuesday, May 5th, CYRANO (with music by Frank Wildhorn and book & lyrics by Leslie Bricusse) opened in Tokyo to what was reported to be a rapturous ovation. CYRANO stars Takeshi Kaga (star of Jekyll & Hyde and Les Miserables) and is produced by Toho Company, HoriPro, and Fuji Television, Cyrano plays at the famous Nissay Theatre. After a run in Tokyo, the show will play Osaka at the Umeda Art Theatre and then tour Japan.
