THE WIZARD OF OZ Plays TIP Mainstage, May 17; TIP Announces 2012-2013 Season

(4/22/2012) "The Wizard of Oz" by L. Frank Baum, book by John Kane, music by Harold Arlen, lyrics by E.Y. Harburg, directed by Jonah Hagans, will be presented on TIP's mainstage May 17-20. TIP has also announced several upcoming performances and the program for its 2012-2013 season.

STAGE TUBE: Japan Society Releases Promo for J-Cation Festival

(4/11/2012) The Society-wide series Sakura-Spring Renews, Beauty Blooms culminates in Japan Society's annual all-day j-CATION culture fest. Guests are transported to a cherry blossom-filled springtime haven, with activities including a Japanese-style game show (grand prize: one roundtrip ticket to Japan), live bands, art, cinema, workshops, origami, printmaking, karaoke, language lessons, family activities, a hana-mi (cherry blossom viewing) lounge with drinks and snacks, and more.

WONDERLAND to Play Japan's Aoyama Theatre This Fall

(4/9/2012) Frank Wildhorn's WONDERLAND, which opened on Broadway last Spring, will make its international premiere at Tokyo's Aoyama Theatre in Fall 2012. Set to star in the production are Kei Aran and Megumi Hamada. Hiromi Suzuki will direct. The production will run November 18-December 4. Click here for tickets.

(3/29/2012) Japan Society proudly presents Kabuki Dance, led by master dancer Bando Kotoji, as part of the Society’s Performing Arts Season spanning Fall 2011 through Spring 2012. This extraordinary traditional program plays three performances only Thursday, March 29 – Saturday, March 31 at Japan Society (333 East 47th Street) as part of a five city East Coast Tour organized by Japan Society and funded by The Japan Foundation in celebration of the 100th anniversary of Japan’s gift of cherry trees to Washington, DC and New York City.

(3/2/2012) A worldwide series of free concerts has been arranged by The Japan Foundation to convey the Japanese people's gratitude to the global community for their support during the Japanese Earthquake and Tsunami. On Tuesday, March 6 at 7:30 PM, The Japan Foundation will present "Overcoming the Disaster: Gratitude from Japan to the World," at the Rose Theater in New York City.

ROCK OF AGES Opens in Japan

(10/28/2011) ROCK OF AGES, the smash-hit 80's rock musical that has been deemed "Broadway's Biggest Party", will become Japan's Biggest Party when a new Japanese-language production of the show opens this Friday, October 28 in Tokyo, Japan. The 21-performance run of ROCK OF AGES will begin at the Tokyo International Forum (October 28 to November 6; 14 performances) before traveling to Osaka (November 11 to 13; 5 performances) and Fukuoka (November 19; 2 performances). Renowned Japanese singer Nishikawa Takanori (also known as T.M. Revolution) will lead the cast as "Drew" in this classic rock love story that features major hits from the 1980's including "Every Rose Has Its Thorn", "I Wanna Know What Love Is", "Here I Go Again", "Don't Stop Believin'" and more.
